Hey guys! Well here we are on the Knobbyonix website. This site was developed because of our love for all things off-road. From Pit Bikes to the old 1985 Honda Odyssey dune buggy we love it all. I've personally been riding dirt bikes and off roading since I was ten years old. That's back in 1981!
Although we've been away from riding for quite some time I got back into it in the last four years or so and really inspired by the flood of "off-brand" products from China. A lot of folks put these machine down but this is no different than it was when the Japanese machines came to the USA. Back then everybody had the same opinion of them but shortly after their introduction into the world market the Japanese offerings became most popular choice for most folks getting into off-road riding or motocross in the 70's and 80's. I think these new Chinese offers completely change the options and price point. Now, more than ever, purchasing a new machine is often cheaper than the cost of purchasing a 20 year old used machine!
Not all the brands are created equal but there are some that really stand out. Although I did race a little motocross and love watching it I have a connection more with off-road. I spent most of my childhood playing in the woods. Everything from riding bikes to manhunt. So riding in these woods with dirt-bikes was an extension of when we were younger. I have two brothers, both younger. I helped my middle brother Steve buy his first bike in 1996. We both had 1996 Kawasaki KDX200 and later I had a 1998 KDX220R. My youngest brother Mike got his first bike in 1996 as well. I found a Honda XR80R in great shape and was dying to add a lighting coil, classic headlight, hand-guards and truly make it into off-road machine, just like the bigger XRs. Prior to the KDXs I had a bunch of bikes starting in 1982 with a home built mini-bike with a 4HP Briggs and Stratton engine...then a used Kawasaki KD175. Then my dad helped me buy a brand new 1985 XR200R. I got into motocross riding a couple of years later and purchased a used 1986 Honda CR125R and later a 1988 CR125R. Then I took a break from riding for a few years but in 1995 got back into it and purchased a new 1995 Honda XR250R but quickly traded it in for the KDX as I preferred the two stroke zippy engine and lighter bike.
One of the of the other great things regarding the new flood of very affordable Chinese offers is now almost anyone can purchase a new bike for less than buying a used beat up 20 year old bike. In fact my brother just purchase a new bike for himself, two bikes for each of his kids and an ATV for his wife! That would not be possible without the inexpensive Chinese machines delivered right to your door! You can see Steve's new X-Pro Paladin 300, his son's X-Pro X28 110cc with Knbobbyonix suspension kit and modification so they works very well with the 65 pound body of his son and soon the second X-28 bike for his daughter and ATV for his wife Jessica.
